Jack Draper continued his encouraging start under new coach Andy Murray by defeating fellow Briton Jack Pinnington Jones at the Eastbourne Open. In challenging hot conditions on the south coast, Draper secured a 7-5, 6-4 victory to advance to the quarter-finals of the grass-court event.
The match marked only Draper's second competitive appearance in over two months as he continues his recovery from persistent arm and knee injuries. Having missed the Queen's Club Championships to focus on his fitness, the former world No. 4 expressed gratitude for his ability to compete at a high level so quickly upon his return.
My confidence levels were below the floor a couple of weeks ago; I hadn't played for a long time, wasn't match fit. To come here and be on court and to be competing and playing at a high level very quickly, I'm very grateful. Jack Draper
Other British players also found success on Wednesday, with Jan Choinski and Toby Samuel both progressing in the tournament. Draper is now set to face Canada's Gabriel Diallo on Thursday with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
