Former Watford and Swansea manager Kenny Jackett dies aged 64
Former Wales international and experienced English football manager Kenny Jackett has passed away at 64.
Kenny Jackett, the former Wales international and long-serving manager of clubs including Watford, Swansea City, Millwall, and Wolverhampton Wanderers, has died at the age of 64.
A Watford-born defender, Jackett spent his entire playing career with his hometown club, making over 300 appearances and earning 31 caps for Wales. His playing days were cut short at 28 due to persistent knee injuries, leading him to transition into a coaching career that spanned four decades.
As a manager, Jackett enjoyed significant success within the English Football League. He guided Swansea to promotion in 2005, led Millwall to League One play-off glory in 2010, and secured the third-tier title with Wolves in 2014. He most recently served as director of football at Gillingham until stepping down for medical reasons in November 2024.
"Kenny stands as one of the most respected managers to have plied their trade in the EFL, a hugely capable leader whose work across four decades has left a lasting influence on the many players, coaches and colleagues who benefited from his guidance." Richard Bevan, LMA Chief Executive
Tributes have poured in for Jackett, who was widely regarded for his humility, professionalism, and quiet dignity. From his early coaching days under Graham Taylor to his final role at Gillingham, he was noted for his incredible sense of responsibility to his teams and the sport itself.
