Ajax are on the verge of completing a deal for Barcelona left-back Jofre Torrents. According to reports from ESPN, the agreement includes an option for the Amsterdam club to sign the 19-year-old on a permanent basis following the conclusion of his loan spell.
Barcelona are keen for Torrents to gain regular first-team experience elsewhere, as his path to the senior squad is currently blocked by the competition from Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martín. The club remains high on his potential, with Hansi Flick reportedly impressed by his development during the pre-season.
At Ajax, Torrents is expected to serve as back-up to Caio Henrique, though his status could shift depending on the future of Owen Wijndal. Should Wijndal depart the club, Torrents could find himself higher in the order. If Wijndal remains in Amsterdam, the teenager is likely to see significant playing time with Jong Ajax.
Barcelona view a season in the Eredivisie as the ideal next step for the defender's growth. Given his progress through the club's academy and a contract that runs until 2028, the Catalan side opted for a loan move rather than a permanent sale, allowing them to keep a close eye on his development.
