Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall channeled his frustration into a match-winning performance for Everton just hours after learning he had been overlooked for the England squad. The 28-year-old midfielder, who had been tipped for a call-up by Thomas Tuchel, responded by scoring a thunderous goal to help the Blues secure a 3-1 comeback victory over Coventry City.
"It was a disappointing morning, I'm not going to lie. It's a massive dream of mine to play for my country. I know I was close," Dewsbury-Hall admitted after the match. "But I'm really proud of myself and how I have reacted. All I can keep doing is putting in good performances and hopefully one day I get the nod."
The victory was further bolstered by a brace from Thierno Barry, who has now reached double figures for the season. The 24-year-old forward, who joined from Villarreal, is finding inspiration in the prolific form of Erling Haaland as he looks to maintain his goalscoring momentum. His contribution proved vital as the Toffees moved up to fifth in the Premier League table.
It was a milestone evening for manager David Moyes, who equaled Harry Catterick's record of 592 matches in charge of Everton. "The thought of being the Everton manager who has managed the most games is something I'm very proud of," Moyes reflected on his landmark achievement.
