Lucas Da Cunha returned to the Como lineup following his international debut for France during the last break. The midfielder wore the captain's armband in a 0-0 draw against AS Roma.

Manager Cesc Fabregas spoke openly about seeing his player represent his country:

I didn't cry, but it moved me to see him there. I know his journey very well, I know the person he is, how much he fought, how much he changed, and how much he worked to get to this moment which is very, very deserved.

Fabregas also noted the tactical differences in Da Cunha's role. While he operates differently at the club level, he was utilized as a holding midfielder for France. According to the coach, the freedom given by Zinedine Zidane to manage the tempo was exactly what the national team needed.

That was something France was missing, as they have strength and physicality. Lucas transmits different things to them. The fact that the team revolves around him was a very interesting choice by Zidane, and I think he did well.
