RC Lens head coach Yannick Cahuzac faces a unique challenge this week, balancing preparation for his first-ever Champions League match against Sporting CP with his ongoing training for the professional coaching license (BEPF).
Cahuzac took charge of the team following the departure of Dino Toppmöller. Because he is still working toward the diploma required for top-level coaching in France, he is currently attending mandatory courses in Clairefontaine. For this week's European fixture, he received special authorization to delay his return to the training center until Wednesday morning.
It is up to me and my training to adapt. My staff are ready to step up, and the instructors have ensured that I can prepare for the match in the best possible conditions. Yannick Cahuzac
While match preparation remains his absolute priority, Cahuzac has the flexibility to attend certain theoretical sessions remotely. The program supervisors have emphasized that they are not placing extra pressure on him, allowing him to manage his schedule around his duties with the club.
Cahuzac is the first head coach in the men's game to navigate such a dual agenda while managing a team in the Champions League. While the club faces fines for his lack of a diploma in domestic Ligue 1 action, no such sanctions apply in UEFA competition.
