Canada's vice-captain Stephen Eustaquio did not participate in Sunday's training session, just three days after Canada's 6-0 victory over Qatar. Canada Soccer has not provided a reason for the midfielder's absence, though he is expected to arrive at the training ground later today.
Eustaquio has started both of Canada’s World Cup matches so far, playing the full duration against Qatar. With Alphonso Davies sidelined throughout the tournament while recovering from a hamstring injury, Eustaquio has worn the captain's armband in both opening games.
Following the win against Qatar, Eustaquio showed no outward signs of physical distress. As a presumed starter in the deep-lying midfield role, his potential unavailability would be a significant development for the team as they look ahead to their final group-stage fixture against Switzerland.
Meanwhile, defender Alfie Jones also missed team training as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury, with his involvement against Switzerland remaining unlikely. In more positive news, Alphonso Davies participated in the team session. Head coach Jesse Marsch confirmed that Davies will follow a training regimen this week to evaluate his fitness ahead of the upcoming match.
