Ahead of the crucial clash against Roma, Napoli coach Massimiliano Allegri is exploring new tactical possibilities. The manager hasn't ruled out using Kevin De Bruyne as a deep-lying playmaker, noting that the player possesses the quality to perform comfortably in front of the defense.
Allegri stressed that the squad features other key players in that position, including Stanislav Lobotka and Billy Gilmour. The coach highlighted the necessity of rotation, given the congested fixture list, which requires utilizing the entire squad.
Regarding the team's fitness, Allegri confirmed uncertainty surrounding Amir Rrahmani, who is suffering from a fever. Scott McTominay is still working his way back to full fitness after two months out, while the availability of players like Andre-Frank Zambo-Anguissa will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The match against Roma is vital for Napoli as they look to bounce back following a slip-up in Venice. Allegri admitted the team needs to improve defensively when out of possession, noting that opponents have been getting through them too easily. He added that consistent results remain the primary driver for boosting the team's morale and overall confidence.
