Xabi Alonso: It's not enough, we can definitely play better

Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has assessed his team's performance at the start of the season and admitted that the London side needs to improve significantly in defensive areas.

I have the feeling that the situation will improve, but right now it is not enough. We have positive moments, but there are things that need to be improved — not only the results, but the game itself, especially the number of goals conceded. Xabi Alonso

The Spanish coach emphasized that the team's issues are not limited solely to the defenders. In his view, attacking efficiency is directly linked to how securely Chelsea operates without the ball. The team is currently in a phase of development and is conducting a critical analysis of the situation.

The way we attack helps us defend. Everything is connected, and many aspects are still in the process of development. We are critically and analytically evaluating the situation and working to ensure we don't concede so many goals. We can definitely play better. Xabi Alonso

Defensive stability has been a major concern for Chelsea early in the campaign. The team has conceded at least two goals in each of its first four Premier League matches, prompting the coaching staff to focus on finding a better balance between attacking intent and defensive discipline.
