John Obi Mikel slams Chelsea's transfer window failure
John Obi Mikel has criticised Chelsea's inability to replace Enzo Fernandez, arguing it has left Xabi Alonso's side vulnerable defensively this season.

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has heavily criticised the club's summer transfer activity, specifically the failure to sign a replacement for Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine left the club on deadline day in a record-breaking £125m deal to Manchester City.
Speaking on the 'Obi One' podcast, Mikel expressed his frustration that the club failed to act despite knowing for a long time that Fernandez intended to leave. A last-minute move for Monaco youngster Lamine Camara also collapsed, leaving a significant gap in the squad.

The lack of defensive cover has put significant pressure on Xabi Alonso's side. Chelsea have conceded 12 goals in six matches, including a 2-2 draw with Hull City. Mikel argued that the current system requires at least two holding players to provide necessary protection for the back-four.
The club is now pinning its hopes on the return of Moises Caicedo, who has been limited by a calf injury. Mikel believes that once Caicedo returns to partner the likes of Romeo Lavia or Reece James, the team will become far more solid and balanced.
Chelsea will look to address these issues in their upcoming match against Brentford this Friday as they aim to kickstart their Premier League campaign.
