The Tunisian national team is embarking on its seventh World Cup campaign, driven by a clear objective: to reach the knockout stage for the first time in their history. As a frequent representative of African football, Tunisia hopes that the expanded 48-team format will provide the perfect opportunity to finally overcome the group stage obstacle that has persisted throughout their previous attempts.
For the 2026 tournament, Tunisia has been drawn into Group F alongside the Netherlands, Japan, and Sweden. Their opening match is scheduled against Sweden in Monterrey, Mexico.
Tunisia's tournament history contains significant milestones. In 1978, they became the first African nation to secure a victory at a World Cup by defeating Mexico 3-1. More recently, in the 2022 tournament held in Qatar, the team showed resilience by defeating then-defending champions France 1-0, thanks to a goal from Wahbi Khazri. Although that win was not enough to secure a spot in the round of 16, it marked their best campaign since 1978.
Following the 2022 tournament, captain Wahbi Khazri announced his retirement from international duty with a record of 25 goals in 74 caps. Now, a new generation of players is tasked with turning the nation's accumulated experience into a historic run in the knockout phase.
