Clearlake Capital has officially secured total control of Chelsea after acquiring the remaining stakes held by Todd Boehly and Mark Walter. The private equity firm, led by Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, has bought out the 12.83 per cent shares held by both men.
The transaction values the club at approximately £5 billion, including debt. According to reports, Boehly and Walter will receive a combined £950 million from the sale. Swiss investor Hansjorg Wyss retains his 12.83 per cent stake, maintaining his position as a partner in the ownership group.
"It has been an honour to serve as Chairman of Chelsea Football Club. I would like to thank the many who helped secure a bright future for the Club, including the English Premier League, the coaches and players, the talented leadership and staff at Chelsea, and the legions of dedicated fans." Todd Boehly
The boardroom restructuring follows months of reported tension between the ownership factions. Clearlake, which already held a 61.5 per cent majority, has now consolidated its power. While Boehly will immediately step down as chairman, the club has confirmed that day-to-day operations and leadership structures will remain unchanged during this transition period.
On the pitch, manager Xabi Alonso faces the task of maintaining the team's momentum. The Blues currently sit sixth in the Premier League, and the club's leadership has promised stability across sporting and medical departments to ensure the focus remains on domestic and European campaigns.
