The 20-year-old scored a brilliant equalizer in the 71st minute, but his immediate reaction—making a throat-slitting gesture towards the home supporters—drew widespread criticism.

Speaking after the match, the German forward defended his actions, revealing that home fans had been hurling verbal abuse at his parents throughout the encounter. He insisted the gesture was not malicious but rather an emotional outburst.
