Ansu Fati nears Monaco return for Toulouse clash after injury layoff
Monaco forward Ansu Fati is targeting his 2026-27 season debut in Saturday's Ligue 1 home match against Toulouse following a calf injury.
Monaco forward Ansu Fati is nearing his official debut for the 2026-27 season. The 23-year-old has targeted Saturday's home fixture against Toulouse as the ideal opportunity to make his return to Ligue 1 action.
His absence was caused by a calf muscle strain sustained during the pre-season. The club's medical staff opted for a cautious approach, delaying his comeback until after the international break to ensure a full recovery and eliminate the risk of a relapse.
Optimism regarding his fitness was bolstered on October 3, when Fati participated in a friendly match against Pisa. He started and played the opening 45 minutes of the 2-0 victory, which saw goals from Folarin Balogun (via penalty) and Mika Biereth. This appearance confirmed that his individual rehabilitation program has been successful.
Head coach Filipe Luis has praised Fati's ability to create danger near the penalty box, though he noted that the forward must continue refining his off-the-ball movement. The Brazilian manager is managing the workload of several key players, including Balogun, Takumi Minamino, and Mohammed Salisu, using tailored training regimes to ensure they regain match sharpness safely.
Monaco secured Fati on a permanent deal in the summer of 2026 after a productive campaign where he scored 12 goals in 30 appearances. Overcoming his recurring fitness issues remains the highest priority for the former Barcelona talent as he looks to fulfill the immense promise shown during his breakout years at La Masia.
