Shakhtar's victory over AEK marks 500th European win for Ukrainian clubs

Shakhtar Donetsk have reached a historic milestone, securing a 3-1 victory against AEK in the second round of the Champions League. This win at Stamford Bridge marks the 500th victory for Ukrainian clubs in European competition history.

The journey began on September 2, 1965, when Dynamo Kyiv defeated Coleraine 6-1 in the Cup Winners' Cup. Over the subsequent decades, 19 different Ukrainian clubs have contributed to this tally, led by Dynamo Kyiv (184 wins), Shakhtar Donetsk (136), and Dnipro (53).

The breakdown of these victories highlights the prominence of the Europa League (247 wins) and the Champions League (183 wins). The match in London also represented the 300th home victory for Ukrainian teams in Europe, while 196 wins were achieved away from home and four on neutral ground. For Shakhtar, this was also their tenth home comeback win in European competition.
