Shakhtar Donetsk captain and defender Mykola Matviyenko found the net in a 3-0 victory over Veres. It was a rare attacking contribution for the defender, who joked about the infrequency of his goalscoring.

I score once every two years and I also give interviews once every two years. So, we'll see each other again in two. Mykola Matviyenko

The defender explained that his goal was a tactical necessity. Because Veres sat in a very deep defensive block, Shakhtar struggled to find space, making long-range shots one of the most effective ways to break the deadlock. The team's ability to create chances improved further after Veres received a red card, allowing the visitors to approach the goal with more freedom.

Matviyenko noted that the squad is currently managing physical fatigue following the international break, primarily focusing on recovery from travel. The team is now shifting its full attention to the upcoming match against AEK.

Looking ahead to the next challenge, the captain spoke about facing his former teammate Oleksandr Zubkov. Matviyenko expressed respect for the winger's abilities and humorously noted he knows all his signature moves, while also wishing Zubkov a speedy recovery from a back injury in time for the game.
