Liverpool academy talent Rio Ngumoha has opened up about the mental and tactical progression that fueled his impactful cameo in the 2-1 win at Brentford. Introduced in the 52nd minute with the team trailing, the 18-year-old provided the spark needed for the Reds to secure all three points through goals from Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak.
For everyone watching, it was very up and down. But these games you kind of live for really and to get the three points just shows how strong the mentality is in the team. It's definitely tough but I think if you just have come into the game in the right mind frame, thinking I can impact the game, then you can probably do whatever. Rio Ngumoha
The appearance marked his eighth outing of the campaign, highlighting his transition from a traditional left-sided attacker to a versatile forward capable of playing across the line. Ngumoha credits his time away with England and consistent tactical exposure for this evolution.
I think I've got a lot better on the right from the Newcastle game to now. I think I'm understanding more as well. I think definitely going away with England as well helped me a lot. I like playing on both sides now as well and it gives me another tool in the toolbox, so it's good. Rio Ngumoha
However, the victory was marred by significant injury concerns. Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong are set for lengthy absences following the match, leaving Liverpool with a depleted squad as they prepare to face Villarreal on Tuesday.
