Rio Court notifies FIFA recognizing Botafogo's inability to pay transfer ban debts

A Rio de Janeiro court has determined that a decision must be sent to FIFA acknowledging that Botafogo is currently unable to pay the debts that led to its ongoing transfer bans. This development is a significant milestone in the club's broader judicial recovery process.

Within the framework of this legal recovery, the club had previously requested permission to settle debts that were blocking the registration of new players. Since initial efforts were unsuccessful, the club sought this formal judicial declaration to facilitate a resolution. The situation stems from the fact that, under judicial reorganization, the club is legally prohibited from prioritizing specific creditors, meaning these debts must instead be managed according to the reorganization's creditor hierarchy.

Internally, the move has been celebrated as a major step toward clearing the sanctions. Botafogo is currently dealing with six separate transfer bans involving debts to clubs such as Atlanta United, New York City FC, Ludogorets, and Zenit, as well as penalties related to documentation delays.

As the club navigates these bureaucratic hurdles, management is focused on resolving these issues in time for the registration window, which is set to run from July 20 to September 11.
