The 2026-27 Premier League season will kick off on Friday, 21 August, with newly promoted Coventry City travelling to face champions Arsenal. It marks a significant return for the Sky Blues, who are playing their first top-flight match in 25 years.
Elsewhere, the opening weekend features several high-profile changes. Manchester City begin their first season without Pep Guardiola at home to Bournemouth, now managed by Marco Rose. Meanwhile, Liverpool start the Andoni Iraola era away at Newcastle, and Chelsea head to Fulham under new boss Xabi Alonso.
This campaign is set to run until 30 May 2027, with the schedule adjusted to accommodate the World Cup in the United States. To manage the workload, the league has consolidated the September and October international breaks into one three-week period.
The league is also introducing new directives for officials. Referees will pay closer attention to grappling during set-pieces, particularly actions that have a material impact on play. Additionally, new measures are being finalized to curb goalkeeper time-wasting, including a potential five-second countdown for restarts that could result in a corner kick for the opposition if ignored.
