Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi will wait until after the 2027 U21 Euros to choose his senior international allegiance.
One of Europe's brightest young talents, Nicolo Tresoldi, has officially announced that he will postpone his final decision regarding his senior international allegiance. The 22-year-old Club Brugge forward intends to remain with the German U21 squad through the 2027 European Championship before making a definitive choice between Germany and Italy.
Speaking to Sky Germany, Tresoldi acknowledged the emotional difficulty of the situation. "My heart is 50:50. Both countries mean a lot to me," the forward explained, noting that his form in Belgium has prompted significant interest from both national setups.
The stakes were raised following personal outreach from Jurgen Klopp, now managing the German national team. Tresoldi praised Klopp's empathetic approach, describing their interaction as being more like a father-son conversation than a typical coach-athlete meeting, and confirmed that the door to the German senior squad remains open.

Italy’s head coach, Roberto Mancini, has also been active in attempting to convince the striker to return to his roots. Born in Sardinia, Tresoldi maintains deep ties to Italy, having lived there during his early childhood before moving to Germany at 13. He confirmed that he offered Mancini the same level of honesty regarding his internal conflict.
For the time being, Tresoldi remains committed to the project led by Antonio Di Salvo. He is set to return to action this Saturday when the German U21 side faces Latvia in a European Championship qualifier. He emphasized his pride in wearing the Germany jersey and stated his desire to compete in the upcoming European tournament before revisiting his long-term international future.
