Mexican Players' Association demands voice in promotion and relegation debate

The Mexican Association of Professional Footballers (AMFPro) has formally stated its position regarding the ongoing debate over promotion and relegation in Mexican football. The organization insists that any modification affecting the professional and sporting lives of players must be subject to prior consultation with the footballers through their representative body.

In a statement, AMFPro noted that this debate is not new, pointing out that various decisions regarding the competition model have been made over the last six years. The organization argued that these changes have had direct consequences for professional players and maintained that it is unfair to blame them for the current situation.

AMFPro continues to support players in the Liga de Expansión, ensuring the monitoring and fulfillment of their employment contracts. The association advocates for a sports model where competition and development are fundamental pillars for the growth of Mexican football.

With a membership of over 16,000 professional players across both men's and women's categories, the organization explained that diverse perspectives exist among its members. Therefore, any collective action must arise from consensus among the professionals themselves.
