Memphis Depay to file FIFA complaint over €7m Corinthians debt
The Dutch forward is taking legal action against the Brazilian club over unpaid bonuses and image rights following a contract dispute.
Dutch forward Memphis Depay is preparing to file a complaint with FIFA regarding unpaid financial obligations by Brazilian club Corinthians. According to reports from UOL, the total debt amounts to approximately 42 million Brazilian reais, which is worth just over 7 million euros.
The dispute centers on several missed payments, including portions of a signing bonus, image rights, and performance-based incentives. The relationship deteriorated after Corinthians withdrew a contract extension offer at the last minute, citing financial difficulties, despite prior agreements with the club's leadership.
Depay has publicly criticized the club's board, claiming that the terms were fully agreed upon by the president, as well as the sporting, legal, and financial departments, before being disregarded. If FIFA rules in the player's favor, Corinthians face the risk of sporting sanctions, including a potential ban on registering new players in upcoming transfer windows.
Depay joined Corinthians in 2024. During his tenure, the 32-year-old forward made 79 appearances, scored 20 goals, and helped the team secure the Copa do Brasil in 2025 and the Supercopa do Brasil in 2026.
