Liverpool have officially begun the process of planning a defensive rebuild, with the club looking at long-term solutions amidst uncertainty regarding the futures of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
Borussia Dortmund star Nico Schlotterbeck remains a leading name on the club's shortlist. Despite signing a new contract earlier this year, his ability to progress the ball and his leadership qualities make him a highly attractive prospect. While estimates suggest Dortmund could demand over 70 million euros, Schlotterbeck is seen as a strong technical fit for Liverpool's tactical requirements.
Alternatively, the club is monitoring Nottingham Forest defender Murillo. The 24-year-old Brazilian offers the advantage of existing Premier League experience, which would negate any adaptation period. His pace is particularly appealing for a defensive system that requires center-backs to operate with a high line.
Beyond these two, Liverpool continue to evaluate Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan and Jules Koundé of Barcelona. At this stage, the Reds are strictly in the monitoring phase, analyzing performances and sizing up financial conditions without having made official offers for any of the targets.
