Johan Manzambi's historic brace leads Switzerland to 4-1 win over Bosnia & Herzegovina
Teenage substitute Johan Manzambi scored a historic late brace as Switzerland secured a 4-1 victory over ten-man Bosnia & Herzegovina at the World Cup.
Switzerland secured a convincing 4-1 victory against Bosnia & Herzegovina in their World Cup clash. After a disappointing opening draw against Qatar, Murat Yakin's side controlled the game, breaking the resistance of an opponent that arrived with a nine-match unbeaten streak.
The breakthrough arrived in the 74th minute when 19-year-old substitute Johan Manzambi, who had replaced Dan Ndoye just three minutes earlier, scored with a spectacular volley. The match descended into chaos following a straight red card for Tarik Muharemovic, which allowed Ruben Vargas, captain Granit Xhaka, and Manzambi to capitalize on the numerical advantage.
Honestly, it’s incredible – it’s the first brace of my career, and at the World Cup on top of that. Scoring two goals in front of the fans and my family, that’s very, very nice. Johan Manzambi
Manzambi became the youngest Swiss player to score a World Cup brace since 1950. Manager Murat Yakin praised the teenager's performance, highlighting his tactical flexibility and the creative freedom he was granted in the final stages of the match.
Switzerland now faces a massive, winner-takes-all showdown against tournament hosts Canada on Wednesday, June 24. The victor of this clash is guaranteed to seal the top spot in Group B, securing a more favorable path into the knockout rounds.
