American investor Peter Grieve, who was close to acquiring a stake in Atletico Mineiro in 2023, has opened up about the details behind the failed negotiations. More than three years after the talks, the businessman explained the specific factors that prevented a deal from being finalized.
According to Grieve, the exclusion of the MRV Arena from the operation and the club's high level of debt were fundamental issues that made the project financially unviable in his view. He described the situation at the time as unsustainable.

Despite the failed attempt, Grieve stated that he remains interested in Atletico. He emphasized that he developed a strong identification with the club and still views it as the only Brazilian side he would consider investing in, describing it as the «jewel in the crown» of his potential portfolio.
