Atletico defender sent off after clash with Rafael Leão in friendly

Atletico Mineiro defender Iván Román had an eventful afternoon during the international friendly between Chile and Portugal, held at the Jamor National Stadium near Lisbon.

Tasked with the difficult assignment of marking superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Román faced significant pressure from the Portuguese attack. While he and his defensive partner Guillermo Maripán struggled at times, they managed to keep the score level throughout the first half. Ronaldo did have a goal ruled out for offside during the proceedings.

However, tensions boiled over in the closing minutes of the first half. Following a challenge near the byline, a scuffle broke out between players from both sides. The referee ultimately decided to issue red cards to both Román and Portugal winger Rafael Leão for their involvement in the altercation.

This match served as Portugal's final preparation before the upcoming World Cup, where they are drawn into Group K alongside Colombia, Uzbekistan, and Congo. Conversely, Chile failed to qualify for the tournament after a disappointing campaign in the South American qualifiers.
