Spain's World Cup campaign got off to a frustrating start as they were held to a 0-0 draw by tournament debutants Cape Verde. Despite entering the competition as the reigning European champions, Luis de la Fuente's side lacked the necessary intensity to break down their opponents.

Ferran Torres and Gavi received particularly low marks, with the former missing a golden opportunity when he hit the crossbar from close range. Gavi, a surprise inclusion in the starting XI, failed to provide the creativity needed on the left flank, leaving the attack stagnant for long periods.
