Hugo Sánchez claims he could have won two Ballon d'Or awards

Legendary Mexican striker Hugo Sánchez has expressed his belief that he could have won two or even three Ballon d'Or awards if not for the restrictions of his era. According to the former forward, there was discrimination during his prime years that prevented both him and Diego Armando Maradona from competing for the individual accolade on equal terms.

Speaking to ESTO, Sánchez noted that despite his significant achievements, including winning the Golden Boot while playing in Spain, he was denied a fair opportunity to contend for the world's best player title. He asserted that without the barriers that existed at the time, his individual trophy cabinet would have been significantly more decorated.

Beyond reflecting on his career, Sánchez offered advice to young Mexican prospect Gilberto Mora. The former Real Madrid star strongly recommended that the youngster seek a transfer to one of Europe's biggest clubs to ensure his development.

"It is simple: Europe and to the biggest teams. And if that is Real Madrid, even better," Sánchez stated. He further emphasized his position, recommending that all Mexican footballers pursue their careers in Europe to reach their full potential.
