Barcelona holds high expectations ahead of today's awards ceremony. The club expects winger Lamine Yamal to receive the accolade for the world's best young player. According to El Partidazo de COPE, the Catalan club does not even rule out the possibility that the 19-year-old Spaniard could contend for the sport's most prestigious individual award, the Ballon d'Or.
Yamal's performances this season have been a revelation in European football, making him a serious contender for top honors despite his young age. The club believes his impact already warrants recognition at the highest level.
Meanwhile, fellow Barcelona representative Pau Cubarsi, who is also nominated for these awards, will not travel to London for the event. The defender opted to stay back to recover from a demanding schedule. Notably, Cubarsi played through a fever during the recent El Clasico against Real Madrid, which ended in a 1:2 defeat for the Catalans.
