Former professional tennis player Roberto Bautista Agut did not stay away from competitive sports for long. Less than a month after retiring from his successful tennis career, the 38-year-old Spaniard has officially become a footballer, signing a contract with the amateur club Els Ibarsos.

The debut of the former world number nine was a resounding success. In his first preseason match, which ended in a 4-2 victory for his new team, Bautista Agut scored two goals. He shared his emotions on social media, noting that this new chapter in his life brings him great happiness.

This move marks a return to his roots: as a child, Bautista Agut was a serious football player and competed for Villarreal's youth teams until the age of 14, before ultimately choosing tennis. His new club, Els Ibarsos, is based near Valencia and competes in the seventh division of the Spanish football league system.

This is a new stage in life that makes me very happy. May the good start continue! Roberto Bautista Agut

During his tennis career, Roberto won 12 ATP singles titles, captured the Davis Cup with Spain in 2019, and reached the semifinals at Wimbledon, which propelled him to a career-high ranking of 9th in the world.
