Former Manchester City midfielder David Silva has officially come out of retirement at the age of 40. The Spanish legend has signed with Sha Tin, a club competing in the Hong Kong Premier League.
Silva had previously retired in 2023 following a severe anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained during pre-season training with Real Sociedad.
During his illustrious career, Silva won the 2010 World Cup and two European Championships with Spain. His decade at City was marked by 11 major honours, including four Premier League titles, and his impact is immortalized by a statue outside the Etihad Stadium.
"I'm so excited to go to Hong Kong and enjoy the local culture, the food in Sha Tin and, of course, football in Hong Kong," Silva said in a message to fans.
Sha Tin currently sits eighth in the league table after four matches. The club confirmed that Silva will arrive in the coming days to begin squad training and work toward reaching the match fitness required for his debut.
