French football is currently under intense scrutiny from the financial regulator DNCG. Following issues at Lyon, other major clubs such as Marseille and Monaco are facing the risk of strict sanctions, forcing them to offload players this summer. For Monaco, the goal is to bridge a 150 million euro financial gap.

As part of this effort, Monaco is open to selling American striker Folarin Balogun. Everton has emerged as the only club currently in direct negotiations with the Ligue 1 side to secure the forward's services.

However, a significant gap remains between the clubs' valuations. Monaco is holding out for at least 46 million euros. Everton’s initial offer stands at 18 million euros, a sum they intended to offset partly through the sale of Beto to Fiorentina. Both parties are now working to find common ground as the transfer window approaches its conclusion.
