Enzo Maresca delivers blunt message to Michael Carrick ahead of Manchester derby

Ahead of the upcoming Manchester derby, Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has responded to Manchester United manager Michael Carrick's concerns regarding the fixture schedule. The Red Devils face a significant rest disadvantage, having played in the Champions League against Sabah on Thursday, while City enjoyed two extra days of recovery following their Tuesday match in Porto.
Carrick had previously described the tight turnaround as "not ideal" for his squad. However, Maresca offered little sympathy for the situation. The Italian tactician emphasized that such logistical challenges are a standard reality of elite football, pointing out that his own squad navigated the exact same scenario last season ahead of a match against Arsenal.

Despite his blunt stance on the scheduling issue, Maresca remains respectful of the work Carrick has achieved at Old Trafford. He praised the manager for stabilizing a complicated situation since his arrival, noting that he has been impressed by his rival's progress.
Sunday's encounter serves as a critical test for United, who are currently seeking consistency after a shaky start to the Premier League season. While they are reeling from a surprise opening-day defeat and a frustrating draw against Everton, their home attacking form remains a significant threat that City will need to neutralize to claim derby bragging rights.
