Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has admitted that the ongoing case regarding Manchester City's financial rule breaches has "affected me personally" and continues to raise questions for him. Despite the independent commission's guilty verdict for breaches between 2009 and 2018, Carrick believes the situation remains a unique and unresolved issue.
Carrick, who competed against City as both a player and a coach during that period, emphasized that receiving titles years after the fact would never replicate the emotion of winning in the moment. He explained that the beauty of football lies in the journey and the immediate realization of success, which cannot be manufactured retrospectively.
In football, the strive to win, the emotion and the feeling about winning, a lot of it is in the moment. That's essentially what we're all in it for. That's the feeling we all crave. Once that's done, there's no getting that back in any direction. Michael Carrick
Manchester City has lodged an appeal against the commission's decision. While the process could stretch into 2027, Carrick stressed that the uncertainty is damaging and that a speedy resolution is essential for the benefit of everyone involved in the game.
