Edson Álvarez excluded from West Ham squad for League Cup

Mexican midfielder Edson Álvarez remains sidelined at West Ham. The player was once again left out of the matchday squad for the club's League Cup fixture this Tuesday.

This marks the ninth consecutive game in the 2026/27 season that Álvarez has been excluded from the team. Since returning from his loan at Fenerbahce and representing his national team at the 2026 World Cup, he has struggled to feature under manager Nuno Espírito Santo.

His only appearance this season came on August 8, during a 3-1 victory against Portsmouth in the first round of the League Cup. He played 75 minutes in that match but has not received a call-up since.

The situation remains complex as the transfer windows in major European leagues and Liga MX have closed. With his contract at the London club running until June 2028, his future remains uncertain unless he seeks to terminate his deal to become a free agent.
