Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson has opened up about the significant challenges the club faces in the transfer market. According to Nicholson, the limited recruitment activity this summer is primarily driven by the difficulty of competing with English clubs—including those in the Championship—and navigating complex negotiations with agents.

During a recent meeting with fan representatives, Nicholson highlighted that the financial landscape and the demands of player intermediaries have created substantial hurdles for the Scottish champions. The club is currently focusing its efforts on signing out-of-contract players to maintain financial stability while looking for talent.

Manager Martin O'Neill, despite leading the club to a league and cup double last season, has been vocal about the need for new additions to ensure the squad remains competitive. O'Neill emphasized a shift in strategy towards acquiring younger players, noting that they often possess greater ambition and are more suited to the club's long-term developmental model.

The board’s long-term strategy, as outlined by Nicholson, aims to keep the club financially sound while striving to be the best in Scotland and competitive in European competitions. So far, the club has only secured Colombian forward Camilo Duran, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has extended his stay following a short-term deal.
