Barcelona has advanced in negotiations to sign Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, currently with Turkish club Fenerbahce. Reports suggest a deal worth approximately 3 million euros plus performance-based variables.
The Catalan club is planning for the future of its goalkeeping department, with the contract of 36-year-old Wojciech Szczesny set to expire in June 2027. Barcelona aims to finalize the transfer during the current window, with plans to potentially loan the 31-year-old out to Dinamo Zagreb or another European side to gain experience.
The long-term vision involves Livakovic serving as a backup to Joan Garcia, whom the board views as the future number one. However, immediate registration with the first team remains a possibility if the club's financial salary cap permits it.
Livakovic gained significant international recognition for his heroic performance in the 2022 World Cup quarter-final against Brazil, where he made 11 saves and secured Croatia's victory in the penalty shootout.
The goalkeeper previously had a brief, unsuccessful stint in Spain with Girona in 2025, which ended without any official appearances due to disagreements with manager Michel. He has since continued his career and maintained his form for the Croatian national team.
