The situation surrounding Julian Alvarez's future at Atletico Madrid has escalated significantly. Relations between the Argentine forward and the club hierarchy are deteriorating as the transfer saga with Barcelona continues.
Reports suggest that in February, Atletico management gave the player their word that they would facilitate a summer exit should a suitable offer arrive. Following a formal approach from the Catalan side, Alvarez reminded the Madrid board of their earlier conversation, only to be met with a refusal to enter into negotiations.
This broken commitment has left the player frustrated. It is expected that following the 2026 World Cup, Alvarez may consider submitting a formal, public transfer request to force the club's hand regarding his future.
