Following their return to Liga MX, Atlante finds itself in a difficult spot. In the eighth round of the Apertura 2026, the team suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat against Pachuca. Goals from Salomón Rondón, Kenedy, and Oussama Idrissi effectively decided the outcome before halftime, leaving the visiting side with little response in the second half.
The season began with much more optimism for Miguel Herrera's squad. Despite a challenging schedule, Atlante showed they could compete, drawing with América and securing a notable 3-2 victory over Cruz Azul. However, that form has faded: the club now sits in 15th place in the standings, having collected just seven points from their opening eight matches.
A major issue for Atlante has been their efficiency in front of goal; they currently possess one of the league's weakest attacks, which has directly contributed to their slide down the table. To realistically contend for a spot in the liguilla, the team likely needs to secure at least 19 more points from the remaining fixtures.
Atlante faces a critical stretch ahead with upcoming matches against the likes of Monterrey and Pumas. While the math still keeps their postseason dreams alive, the defeat to Pachuca serves as a stark reminder that the team must react quickly to ensure their return to Liga MX doesn't end before the final phase.
