Former Arsenal sporting director Edu joins Levski Sofia board

Former Arsenal sporting director Edu has secured a surprise new role in European football, joining the board of directors at Bulgarian champions Levski Sofia. The move follows his recent departure from his role as global head of football for the network overseen by Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Levski Sofia has undergone a complete organizational restructuring, establishing a new five-person board. Edu joins the club alongside Claudio Pracownik, Felipe Berliner, Matthew Cherry, and current executive director Daniel Borimirov. While his specific responsibilities are yet to be confirmed, the board is scheduled to meet soon to elect a chair and define individual roles within the hierarchy.

This appointment marks a fresh start for Edu following a challenging tenure at the City Ground. His time with the Forest group was marred by recruitment difficulties and reported friction with manager Nuno Espirito Santo. After a period of being distanced from the club's daily operations, his exit was confirmed earlier this month.

Edu's primary focus will now be maintaining domestic dominance for Levski Sofia, who currently lead their league table by five points after nine matches. Additionally, he is tasked with guiding the club through their campaign in the Europa League following their elimination from the Champions League play-offs.
