Following the 2-0 away defeat against Shakhtar in the eleventh round of the UPL, Obolon head coach Oleksandr Antonenko shared his thoughts on the match. Despite the outcome, the manager emphasized the need to accept the result and focus on future development.
Antonenko noted that the primary task for his team was to neutralize the opponent's strengths, particularly their pace and ability to exploit the flanks. The coach highlighted that his side had an opportunity at 0-0 that could have changed the game, but they failed to capitalize on it.
A defeat is a defeat, regardless of whether we are playing against Shakhtar, Epicentr, or any other team. The result remains the result, and we must understand that. Oleksandr Antonenko
Addressing questions about squad rotation, specifically the decision to start Kyrylo Barantsov over Nazariy Fedorivskyi in goal, the coach explained it as a matter of internal competition and assessing the players' readiness. Antonenko also declined to comment on Sukhanov's potential concussion, stating he did not want it to sound like an excuse for the loss.
The manager thanked his players for their dedication and adherence to the game plan. Obolon is now shifting their focus toward the next fixture, where they will host a capital derby against Livyi Bereh.
