Xavi: Messi understood the game deeper than Ronaldo

Former Barcelona player and manager Xavi has shared his perspective on the long-standing rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. While the Spaniard recognizes the Portuguese star as one of the greatest goalscorers in history, he considers the Argentine to be the greatest player of all time.

Messi is the best player who has ever existed. Cristiano is one of the greatest in history, an elite scorer, but Leo understood the game deeper. He could play as a defensive midfielder, a central midfielder, or a false nine, and he read space better than anyone else. Xavi

Xavi highlighted that Messi's tactical versatility and ability to scan the pitch set him apart from other elite players. According to the former midfielder, the intense competition between the two stars acted as a constant catalyst for their individual development throughout their careers.

Cristiano gave him that extra push to become better. Cristiano and Leo probably won't admit it, but I am convinced they kept an eye on each other. If you are competitive, you want to be the best. Xavi
