The winners of the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain will be presented with championship rings for the first time in the tournament’s 96-year history. In addition to the trophy and winner’s medals, 30 bespoke rings will be awarded to the champions in a move FIFA describes as bringing one of the most recognisable American sporting traditions to the global game.
During Sunday's final, the head coach and captain of the winning side will be presented with temporary replicas. The final, customized versions will be crafted and awarded to the players at a later date. According to FIFA, one side of the ring will feature the World Cup trophy, while the other will contain a custom design reflecting the winning team.
This initiative represents the latest integration of North American sporting customs into football. Alongside the rings, the final at MetLife Stadium will feature a half-time performance. FIFA has also confirmed that 1,996 additional rings will be made available for purchase by fans worldwide.
While championship rings are a staple in leagues like the MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL, their arrival in international football marks a significant shift. Although some critics view this as an unnecessary Americanisation of the sport, many players value them as a durable and practical way to commemorate a historic achievement.
