AEK Athens began their Champions League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 home victory over Austrian side LASK.
The hosts were dominant from the start, with Luka Jovic coming close to breaking the deadlock in the third minute, only for LASK goalkeeper Jungwirth to make a crucial save. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 21st minute when Razvan Marin expertly curled a free-kick into the top corner.
In the second half, AEK looked to extend their lead. Luka Jovic found the net in the 64th minute following a delivery from Lovro Majer, but the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside. LASK pushed for an equalizer late on, and Sasha Kalajdzic had a golden opportunity in stoppage time, but his header sailed over the bar.
Ukrainian midfielder Oleksandr Zubkov remained on the bench for the duration of the match.
