Scott McTominay set for heart surgery amid Napoli contract uncertainty

Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay is set to undergo a medical procedure in London to address a mild benign arrhythmia. The club has scheduled the surgery to ensure a swift recovery, with expectations that the Scottish international will return to full competitive action by mid-October.

Sporting director Giovanni Manna provided insight into the recovery plan:

It will take 28 days for sporting fitness because he will take anticoagulant drugs. For two weeks, the player will rest and then resume competitive activity without contact. Giovanni Manna

Beyond the medical situation, Manna confirmed that contract negotiations between the club and the 29-year-old are currently at a standstill. While both parties have expressed a desire to continue their relationship beyond 2028, finding common ground remains a challenge at this stage.

McTominay’s absence creates a significant hole in the Napoli squad as they approach a demanding fixture list. The midfielder also faces a spell on the sidelines for the Scotland national team, missing key Nations League encounters during the start of Sebastien Pocognoli's tenure as head coach.
