Samba Stars: Michail Antonio helps Ghanaian academy chase Premier League dreams

In rural Leicestershire, the Samba Stars are working toward their professional dreams. The squad, drawn from a Ghanaian academy backed by former West Ham and Nottingham Forest forward Michail Antonio, has been spending months in England to showcase their skills to scouts and secure professional contracts.

While scouting in West Africa is common, it is rare for an entire academy to travel to the UK to place players directly in front of professional clubs. Antonio believes the initiative is crucial for showing the depth of talent available in Ghana.

The strategy has already yielded results, with players earning trials at clubs including Bournemouth, Everton, and Manchester City. The team has also recorded impressive results against youth sides from Peterborough and Sheffield Wednesday.

Success stories are already emerging, such as midfielder Listowell Lord Hinneh, who signed with Middlesbrough in February. Now training with the first team, Hinneh serves as a mentor to the current group, encouraging them to maintain their passion as they navigate the transition to European football.
