Run over: MC Alger defeat shatters Inzaghi's historic Al-Hilal record

Simone Inzaghi's remarkable undefeated run as head coach of Al-Hilal has come to an end. The Italian tactician, who took charge during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, saw his historic streak stopped at 53 matches.

During their overseas training camp in Austria, Al-Hilal faced Algerian side MC Alger in a friendly fixture. The match ended in a 2-0 defeat for the Saudi giants, marking the first time the team has lost under Inzaghi in any competition since his appointment.

Prior to this encounter, Inzaghi had remained unbeaten for 53 consecutive matches, including 48 official games and five friendlies. His only previous loss was a 2-1 defeat to Brazilian club Fluminense in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals on July 4 of last year.

While the team had previously been eliminated from the AFC Champions League Elite by Al-Sadd, that exit occurred via a penalty shootout following a 3-3 draw, meaning the unbeaten streak in regulation and extra time remained intact until the loss to MC Alger.
