Pep Guardiola praises Flick's Barcelona but warns of Champions League danger
Pep Guardiola has expressed admiration for Hansi Flick's Barcelona, but warned that the Champions League's volatility should not define the success of a long-term project.
Pep Guardiola has shared his admiration for the current state of Barcelona under head coach Hansi Flick. Speaking at an event in Manresa, the former Barcelona boss praised the Catalan club's style of play and the quality of their squad, noting that the team is performing at a high level regardless of the players' backgrounds.
"I'm a big fan of Hansi, of how they do it and for many years," Guardiola stated. "They have had two extraordinary years, beyond the results, how well they have done and how attractive it is to see them play."
Despite his enthusiasm for their domestic performance, the former Manchester City manager issued a word of caution regarding the Champions League. Guardiola warned that the knockout competition is notoriously volatile and can often unfairly derail promising projects due to factors like refereeing decisions, injuries, and small margins.
For Guardiola, domestic consistency is the true indicator of a team's health. He urged fans and the club hierarchy not to lose sight of the bigger picture, stressing that a season should not be labeled a failure just because of a Champions League exit. "The Champions League destroys projects, I hope that is not the case and that the fact of not winning it does not condition everything else," he explained, adding that the team must focus on continued growth.
