Ahead of their high-stakes Champions League meeting with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain have been dealt a significant injury blow. The club has officially confirmed that left-back Nuno Mendes will be unavailable for the clash at the Parc des Princes.
The 22-year-old sustained a muscular injury to his left thigh during Saturday's 3-1 domestic victory over Strasbourg. While there was initial hope that the issue was minor, medical examinations conducted on Sunday revealed that the damage is severe enough to keep the defender sidelined for several weeks.
Manager Luis Enrique had attempted to protect his player during the Strasbourg match, opting to finish the game with ten men rather than risk further injury after Mendes felt discomfort shortly after coming on as a substitute. Despite these precautions, the recovery timeline ruled him out of the European showdown.
The timing is particularly difficult, as Mendes was widely considered the primary candidate to neutralize the threat posed by Barcelona's young star Lamine Yamal. Enrique must now explore internal solutions, with Lucas Digne and Lucas Hernandez emerging as the most natural replacements. Another tactical possibility involves shifting Warren Zaïre-Emery to the full-back role, which would allow Joao Neves to take on a larger responsibility in the midfield engine room.
