Celtic manager Martin O'Neill has expressed his satisfaction with the impact of new signing Camilo Duran during the friendly match against Sporting. Despite the 4-1 defeat in Portugal, the Colombian forward made an immediate impression by scoring just five minutes after entering the pitch as a substitute.
O'Neill highlighted the forward's intensity and willingness to close down opponents, noting that these specific qualities mirror the style of Daizen Maeda. With O'Neill appearing resigned to the potential departure of the Japan international this summer, he views Duran as a potential successor in terms of tactical contribution.
He might be the second Maeda in that aspect. He certainly has a willingness to do so. I'm delighted with him. He wants to do well, he genuinely does. Martin O'Neill
Duran, who arrived from Qarabag last week, provided a glimpse of his potential during his time on the pitch. O'Neill emphasized that while the result against the Champions League quarter-finalists was disappointing, the match provided a valuable learning opportunity for his squad, particularly regarding the fundamental aspects of pressing and recovery.
